Workshops & Programs

Learn new techniques

Be inspired and have fun!

September 6, 2025 Workshop:
Name Badge Making

Join us as we help you create your very own Herring Run name badge. We’ll have friendly helpers on hand to guide you through the paper piecing process. Don’t worry—once you get the hang of it, your tiny badge will be done faster than a herring can flick its tail!

Special thanks to Peg, who has kindly offered to bring her embroidery machine to personalize each badge with your name—how’s that for service?

We’ll provide the fabric pieces, but please bring your sewing machine and essential tools. Free workshop.

October 4th Workshop:
Creating Landscape Art with
Laura Rosenspan

Following her inspiring trunk show “Real and Imagined Places,” Laura will lead a hands-on workshop focused on creating stunning landscape pieces using fabric and thread. Learn how to bring your scene to life as Laura demonstrates techniques for adding texture, shadows, and reflections—all with fabric!

Participants can work from a landscape sketch provided by Laura or bring their own image for inspiration. As Laura says, “I love helping students get the effects they want.”

Don’t miss this creative opportunity to explore fabric in a whole new way!
This is a sewing machine class and essential tools. A supply list will be sent prior to the class. Class size is limited to 8-10 students.

WORKSHOP IS SOLD OUT!

November 1st Workshop: One-Yard Grocery Bags

We’re starting a new guild tradition just in time for the season of giving!
In this free workshop, we’ll be making fabric grocery bags using only one yard of fabric. We’re encouraging each member to make two bags:

● One for us to donate to a local food pantry – TBD by the Programming Committee
● One for you to donate to a pantry of your choice

We think it’s the perfect way to give back around Thanksgiving and to put some of that extra fabric we all have to good use. Please bring your sewing machine and
essential tools. Free workshop.
